Bakhtiyar Vahabzade’s Jubilee Celebrated at AzTU

A ceremony dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the People’s Poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzade was held at the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU).

The event was jointly organized by AzTU’s Department of Humanities and the Student Trade Union Committee (STUC). The host of the event, poet Jabrayil Gambar, highlighted the importance of the decree issued by President Ilham Aliyev on February 21, 2025, regarding the celebration of Bakhtiyar Vahabzade’s 100th anniversary. He noted that this decree serves as the basis for holding a series of jubilee events for the poet across educational institutions and cultural centers in the country.

AzTU Vice-Rector Rashad Aliyev emphasized that Bakhtiyar Vahabzade, as a prominent representative of Azerbaijani poetry, made a valuable contribution to the development of Azerbaijani literature.

Head of the Department of Humanities Habib Mirzayev stated that Bakhtiyar Vahabzade’s legacy, enriched with patriotic sentiments, represents one of the brightest pages in Azerbaijani poetry. He noted that the poet expressed his profound love for the homeland, nation, and native language through works of deep socio-political and philosophical-poetic content. Bakhtiyar Vahabzade demonstrated a strong commitment to national independence, Azerbaijani ideals, and pan-Turkic values. During the country’s most challenging periods, he showed courage and civic responsibility, earning the deep respect of the people.

During the artistic segment of the event, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, Gulyanaq Mammadova, performed beloved musical pieces composed to Bakhtiyar Vahabzade’s poetry, delighting the audience.

Following this, AzTU graduate and winner of the “Ben Sarki Soylersem” music competition broadcast on the TRT Muzik channel, Farhad Rahimli, ADMİU student Ceyran Abbasli, and AzTU students Alican Aliyev, Lamiye Zahidova, and Maksim Frolov performed songs written to the poet’s verses.

Bakhtiyar Vahabzade’s poetry, including “Axi Dunya Firlanir…”, “Qocalmir”, “Bir Salama Deymedi”, “Ushaqlik”, “Mugham”, “Unutmaq Isterem…”, and “Bayraq,” was recited by Jabrayil Gambar, Associate Professor Habib Mirzayev, and students Durna Hasenli, Fatih Emir Torun, and Canpolad Guliyev.

A video clip reflecting the life and work of Bakhtiyar Vahabzade, including statements by the national leader Heydar Aliyev about the poet, was also shown. In addition, the poems “Azerbaijan-Turkiye” and “Torpaqdan Pay Olmaz!” were presented on screen in the performance of the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

At the end of the event, People’s Artist Gulyanaq Mammadova and the host and reciter, poet Jabrayil Gambar, received letters of appreciation on behalf of AzTU’s administration.

The event concluded with the performance of the song “Azerbaijan,” composed to the poet’s lyrics.
