Key Risks in Road Traffic Safety

An awareness-raising event on the topic of key risks in road traffic safety was held, focusing on the main factors contributing to road traffic accidents and approaches to establishing a safer transport environment.

During the event, it was noted that the principal risk factors include speeding, driver inattention (including mobile phone use), consumption of alcohol and psychoactive substances, inadequate road infrastructure, insufficient lighting, limited protection for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as technical failures of vehicles. The importance of public awareness, effective enforcement mechanisms, and modern infrastructure was emphasized as essential measures for reducing these risks.

The event also highlighted the importance of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. It was noted that dedicated sidewalks and lanes, safe crossing facilities, signaling systems, and traffic-calming measures contribute positively to reducing both the frequency and severity of road traffic accidents.

Particular attention was given to safe mobility practices within the campus area. Issues such as maintaining speed limits of 5–10 km/h, prioritizing pedestrian movement, ensuring clear road markings, and providing adequate lighting were emphasized. The event also underlined that a system-based approach to road safety is increasingly becoming a priority in modern transport policy.
