President Ilham Aliyev’s initiatives to designate 2024 as a year of solidarity for the “Green World” and to host COP29 in Azerbaijan will foster an environment conducive to enhancing the involvement of young people in environmental initiatives. Professor Vilayat Valiyev, the rector of Azerbaijan Technical University, made this statement during his address at the conference held on April 15, focusing on “COP Requirements: Climate Change and Resilience to Natural Disasters.” V. Valiyev remarked that the conference convened at Azerbaijan Technical University holds significant importance. It is imperative to underscore our country’s initiatives in this domain and the consequential measures. “COP29 stands as a pivotal conference globally, addressing paramount topics such as nature conservation, environmental sustainability, green infrastructure, biodiversity, and renewable energy. Hosting this international event in our nation presents extensive opportunities for youth while underscoring the significance of international collaborative efforts and cooperation among young individuals.”

A ceremony dedicated to the 104th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society (AzQAC) was held at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). The event was attended by AzTU Rector Vilayat Valiyev, President of AzQAC and Member of Parliament Novruz Aslanov, Head of the South Caucasus Representative Office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Davron Mukhammadiev, the representative of the Turkish Red Crescent in Azerbaijan, and the university’s faculty and students. The event began with the laying of floral wreaths at the bust of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the university’s foyer. On April 5, in accordance with the Joint Action Plan of the Central Office of the New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), “Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting” Closed Joint Stock Company, and the State Commission for the Fight against Drug Addiction and Illegal Trafficking of Narcotics, in accordance with the Joint Action Plan of the Permanent Working Group at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU)  “Say no to bad habits, choose a healthy lifestyle!” interactive training was held.  

Rector of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) Vilayat Valiyev met with Baltic, Central Asia and South Caucasus coordinator of “Clarivate Analytics” company Anna Trifonova and the company specialist in educational resources Inesh Kenjina. Representatives of AzTU also participated in the meeting. Rector Vilayat Valiyev emphasized that the cooperation between AzTU and “Clarivate Analytics” company, which started in 2015, has been successfully continued. At the meeting, discussions were held in the direction of cooperation with the “Web of Science” international ranking platform of scientific publications, inclusion of scientific journals, dissertations in international databases and increase of references. At the same time, opinions were exchanged on the inclusion of conference publications in various fields into the “Web of Science” platform.  

Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) Student Trade Union Committee and “Support to Youth Education” Public Union organized Novruz festival. Within the framework of the festival, an exhibition of handicrafts of children deprived of parental care was shown with the support of “Jıgır” Public Union for the Development of Moral Values. Greeting the participants of the festival, Rector of AzTU Vilayat Valiyev conveyed his congratulations on the arrival of spring. Mirmohammed Alakbarli, chairman of AzTU Student Trade Union Committee, and Aynura Salmanli, chairman of “Support for Youth Education” Public Union, gave detailed information about the festival to the event participants. On the one hand, the cheerful jokes of Kosa and Kechel, and on the other hand, Novruz khonchas prepared by students added more beauty to the festival. The festival, attended by thousands of young people, continued with a concert program.

On March 4, a report-election meeting of the Azerbaijan Technical University’s (AzTU) Trade Union Committee (TUC) was held. The event was attended by AzTU Rector Vilayat Valiyev, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Free Trade Union of Education Workers (ATİAHİ RK) Mirza Jafarzadeh, vice rectors, deans, department heads, and 55 participants. The meeting began with a moment of silence in honor of those who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our lands, followed by the National Anthem of Azerbaijan. Rector Vilayat Valiyev welcomed the participants and wished success for the meeting. He noted that the TUC plays an important role not only in the social life of the university but also in its academic and scientific directions. On March 1, 2024, a ceremony dedicated to World Civil Defense Day was held at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), organized by the Civil Defense Organization Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES). The event, themed “Innovative Technologies in Civil Defense,” brought together officials responsible for civil defense from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, relevant ministries, state authorities, members of emergency commissions from regional executive bodies, representatives from international organizations, and members of the Public Council of the MES. The ceremony began with the participants laying wreaths at the bust of national leader Heydar Aliyev and paying their respects to his cherished memory. As part of its visit to Türkiye, a delegation led by the Rector of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) Vilayat Valiyev met with the Rector of Hacettepe University, Professor Mehmet Cahit Guran, and representatives of the university on March 1. Within the framework of the meeting, AzTU and Hacettepe University have signed an agreement on joint collaboration in training and research, especially in lifelong learning. Under the agreement, AzTU will benefit from Hacettepe University’s experience in the field of lifelong learning, and the universities will establish an education platform for the specialties required in the labor market of both countries. It is important to note that the delegation led by the Rector of AzTU includes Vice-Rector for International Relations Fariz Mammadov and the Director of the Lifelong Learning School, Aynura Ismayilova.  

The 9th Eurasian Higher Education Summit (EURIE-2024) is being held in Istanbul, Turkey, organized by the Eurasian Universities Association (EURAS). The aim of the summit is to promote Turkey’s higher education sector to the world. The summit is attended by representatives from 67 countries, including educational institutions and companies from the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. More than 2,000 rectors, academic staff, and entrepreneurs are participating. The event is being held at the Istanbul Lutfi Kirdar Congress Center, with Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) represented by a delegation led by Rector Vilayat Valiyev. The delegation also includes Vice Rector for International Relations Fariz Mammadov, Director of the International Relations Department Orkhan Vetenkhah, and Director of the University-Industry Cooperation and Lifelong Learning School Aynura Ismayilova. During the summit, AzTU is showcasing its stand at the exhibition, where discussions are taking place on collaboration with various universities and institutions.  

Cooperation between Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) and secondary schools is being developed. Within the framework of cooperation, the teachers and students of full secondary school No. 5 of Mehdiabad settlement visited AzTU. First, AzTU’s promotional video was shown. Eyvaz Mahammadli, an employee of the Social Development Center, provided presentation about the work done at the university and the innovations implemented. The history of the university, faculties, specializations, international relations, double degree programs, laboratories, career opportunities, and other important information were brought to the attention of schoolchildren. Later, the guests got acquainted with the modern laboratories and classrooms of AzTU.
