Commemoration event dedicated to the January 20 Tragedy was held at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). The event began with a one-minute moment of silence in memory of the sons and daughters of the Motherland who sacrificed their lives for the liberation and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. This was followed by the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Head of the Department of Humanities at AzTU, Habib Mirzayev, stated that the January 20 events are recorded in the history of the Azerbaijani people as both a tragic and heroic chapter. He noted that 36 years ago, on the night of January 19–20, brave sons of Azerbaijan sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the Motherland and ascended to the peak of martyrdom. Habib Mirzayev emphasized that although many years have passed since the tragedy committed by the Soviet empire in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani people have never forgotten this horrific crime.
Speaking next, Associate Professor Akif Nagi, PhD in History, spoke about the unparalleled self-sacrifice of the sons of the Motherland who gave their lives on that bloody night, as well as the unbreakable will demonstrated by the people, who placed honor and dignity above all else. It was highlighted that the cherished memory of the martyrs will live forever in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people.
