Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) is expanding the implementation of the “Life on Land” principles (SDG 15) across its campus in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The main objective is to protect terrestrial ecosystems, support biodiversity, and strengthen green infrastructure. In recent years, the initiatives carried out at the university to improve traffic management and promote micromobility have created real opportunities to expand green spaces. As a result of reducing parking areas from 2000 m² to 1800 m², the freed spaces have been transformed into green zones. This step contributes to preventing land degradation, reducing carbon emissions, and creating a healthier ecological environment on campus.
A 1700-meter bicycle lane established between the university and the dormitory, scooter infrastructure, and expanded pedestrian zones help reduce car use while supporting ecological balance. The daily use of alternative transportation by hundreds of students and staff strengthens the campus’s sustainability indicators. In the next phase, the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, further optimization of parking areas, and the creation of additional green spaces are planned.
Through these initiatives, AzTU is developing not only as a place of education but also as a sustainable campus model where biodiversity is protected and ecosystems are supported.
