A waste recycling initiative involving students and faculty members has been implemented at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) to support efforts in combating climate change and reducing carbon emissions. The initiative, proposed by the Department of Chemical Technology, Recycling and Ecology, was carried out within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action – SDG 13).
As part of the initiative, different types of waste generated on the university campus were separated and directed to recycling processes. The collection of recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, and other reusable resources plays an important role in reducing carbon emissions, promoting efficient use of natural resources, and minimizing environmental pollution.
This activity also contributed to raising awareness among students and faculty about climate change mitigation, low-carbon development, waste management, circular economy principles, and the promotion of sustainable consumption habits. Recycling processes support the implementation of SDG 13 by helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower the carbon footprint, and strengthen environmental responsibility.
It should be noted that initiatives of this kind play an important role in increasing environmental awareness within the university, drawing attention to global climate challenges, and encouraging students to act in accordance with sustainable development principles.
