The Department of Foreign Languages of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) organized a webinar on the topic “Why do we need language skills in teaching a foreign language in the 21st century?”
During the event, Professor Sabina Almammedova, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, noted that learning foreign languages in the 21st century is based on communicative competence, digital literacy, and intercultural communication skills. She emphasized that the main requirements are more than academic knowledge, the importance of freely applying the language for professional and social purposes, especially for using international sources and following innovations.
At the event, the English teachers of the department, Gulnara Ismayilova and Nilufar Huseynova, made presentations on the main requirements for learning foreign languages in the 21st century: communicative and functional approach, digital literacy, professional application, self-education, and sustainability.
Associate Professor of the Department, Khatira Mammadova-Rahimova, gave a presentation on “Why do we need 21st century skills?” In his report, he exchanged views on the skills that a modern person can possess to keep up with the modernizing and electronic world.
