Prof. Dr. A. O. MEKHRABOV was born in the Georgian Republic at April 15, 1952, is a well-known scientist in the field of Modern Solid State Physics and Materials Science and Engineering not only in the former Soviet Union, but also in the USA, European Countries, Japan and Turkey. He is a doctor of physics and mathematics, professor of the "Metallurgy and materials technology" department at the Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Science of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). He graduated from the physics faculty of Azerbaijan State University (ASU) (now BSU) in 1974, and in the same year he was admitted to postgraduate studies at the physics faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) majoring in Solid State Physics (SSPh). In 1978, he defended his thesis at MSU and received the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences in SSPh specialty. In 1978, returning to ASU from MSU, he first worked as an assistant, then as a senior teacher, associate professor, professor and head of "Optics and Molecular Physics" department. In 1984, he was admitted to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the University of Tokyo, Japan, for 10 months to conduct scientific research and teaching. In 1989, he defended his doctoral thesis at the Scientific Council specialized in SSPh specialty at Tbilisi State University and received the degree of Doctor of Physics and Mathematical Sciences. In 1991, he worked as a Fullbright professor for one semester at the Department of "Nuclear and Chemical Engineering" at the University of California, California, USA.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, between 1992 and 2022, he worked as a visiting professor at the "Metallurgical and Materials Engineering" department of the Faculty of Engineering at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey. In 2000, he established the "Design and Development of High-Tech Materials" laboratory at METU and during his about 33 years of work as a faculty member at METU, he was engaged in solving the most actual problems of SSPh and Materials Science and Engineering, both theoretically and practically. Currently, he is the author of more than 300 scientific articles published in the world's most prestigious journals, and about 1000 references have been given to these articles by the world's most famous scientists. He has worked as a manager or researcher in more than 25 local and international projects, has been a plenary speaker, invited speaker and section leader at more than 100 international scientific conferences, and is fluent in Russian, English, and Turkish languages.

From February 2022, he has been working as a professor at Department of Metallurgy and Materials Technologies, from April 2023 as a chair of "Novel Materials and Nanotechnology" Scientific-Research Center and since October 2023 as a director of "Novel Materials and Nanotechnologies" Institute at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), Baku, Azerbaijan.

His main areas of scientific interest are solid state physics, design of alloys, computational materials science, bulk metallic amorphous and nanocrystalline materials, effects of radiation on materials, hydrogen storage materials, green energy systems, etc.
