In connection with March 31 – the Day of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis, students of the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) visited the Guba Genocide Memorial Complex.
The visit, organized on the initiative of the Student Trade Union Committee, provided students with detailed information about the genocide committed against Azerbaijanis by Armenians and about the Guba Genocide Memorial Complex.
It was noted that on December 30, 2009, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order to establish the “Genocide Memorial Complex” in Guba city with the aim of conveying the Armenian nationalist territorial claims against Azerbaijan and their acts of aggression and bloody crimes to the international community, preserving the national memory of future generations, and commemorating the victims of genocide.
The Guba Genocide Memorial Complex was established with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The complex contains photographs depicting the appearance of various areas of Guba city in the early 20th century, construction and development works carried out at that time, and the lifestyle of the population. A special section includes the history of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, accompanied by relevant historical photographs.
The sensor-screen display at the complex provides multilingual information on a map about the genocides committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in various regions of the country during the last century. There is also a dedicated section highlighting the work of national leader Heydar Aliyev in exposing genocide policies against Azerbaijanis and bringing them to the attention of the international community, including the decrees he signed for this purpose. Additionally, detailed information is provided about the Guba, Javad, Goychay, Shamakhi, and Baku districts and the atrocities committed there.
The Guba genocide mass grave was discovered on April 1, 2007, during excavation works in the area. Research confirmed that the burial site is connected to the genocide committed by Armenians against the local civilian population in 1918.
