Transport and Logistics

Department of Transport Technics and Management Technologies

The Department of Transport Engineering and Management Technologies was established in February 2021 through the merger of the Department of Automotive Engineering and the Department of Railway Transport Operation. The Department of Automotive Engineering itself was created in November 2015 based on the Department of Internal Combustion Engines and Auto-tractors, and the Department of Automotive Transport Vehicles.

In accordance with the reforms in railway transport, the "Railway Transport" faculty was established at AzTU on March 1, 1997, with the aim of developing the material and technical base for personnel training. In 2001, the "Railway Transport" faculty merged with the "Automobile Mechanics" faculty to form the "Transport" faculty. Later, the "Transport" faculty was renamed the "Transport and Logistics" faculty.

During its activity, the Department of Railway Transport Operation, under the leadership of Professor S.M. Baghırov and Professor H.M. Ahmadov, saw 14 individuals defend their dissertations and receive the degree of PhD in Technical Sciences.

In connection with the 60th anniversary of AzTU, Professor S.M. Baghırov, who served as the head of the department from 2001 to 2012, was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Scientist."

In recent years, the following individuals have been engaged in scientific and pedagogical activities at the Department of Railway Transport Operation: Dr.Sc. (Tech.), Professor Heybatulla Ahmadov,  Cand.Sc. (Tech.), Associate Professor Yagub Rustamov, Cand.Sc. (Tech.), Associate Professor Israil Elyazov, Ph.D. (Tech.), Associate Professor Leyla Hasratova, Ph.D. (Tech.), Associate Professor Elshan Manafov, Ph.D. (Math.), Associate Professor Ramin Aslanov, , Ph.D. (Tech.), Associate Professor Nijat Zohrabov, and senior lecturer Qazanfar Akhundov.

The Department of Internal Combustion Engines and Auto-tractors was founded in 1962 as "Thermal Engineering and Heat Engines" based on the Departments of General Heat Engineering and Automobiles. It was established by the founder of the national scientific school in internal combustion engines, Honored Scientist of the Azerbaijan Republic, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Niyazi Karimov. For over 25 years, Professor Kərimov led this department. In 1975, the Department of Internal Combustion Engines and Refrigeration Machines was established, and in 1997, the department was renamed the Department of Internal Combustion Engines and Auto-tractors. Later, the department was headed by Professor R.İ. Mehdiyev, Associate Professor A.SH. İsmayılov, and Professor Z.X. Karimov.

Since 1969, the department has been training specialists in "Internal Combustion Engines" and, since 1991, in "Automobiles and Tractors." In 1997, the department began offering Master's programs in these specialties. From 1967 to 2001, the department also trained specialists in "Refrigeration Machines." Since the 1960s, the department has been training scientific personnel in "Heat Engines" through its postgraduate program, and from 1993, in "Automobiles and Tractors." During this time, numerous candidates of sciences (including from countries such as India, Iraq, Syria, and Vietnam) and four doctors of science have been trained.

The “Automobile Transport Vehicles” Department began operating in 1940 at the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute under the name “Automobile Operation” Department. The first department head was Associate Professor Sergey Viktorovich Valedinski. This department was the first specialized department in the republic to train specialists in the field of automobile transport. In a short period (1941-1947), specialists trained by the department began working as teachers and actively participated in the establishment of the department's material and technical base. In 1950, when the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute was established, this department became part of its structure.
