Mechanical Engineering and Robotics

Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology

About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology was established in 1932 at the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute under the name "Cold Metal Processing." In 1942, it was renamed the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology. In 1950, the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute (now the Azerbaijan Technical University) was founded based on the faculties of Construction, Railway Transport, and Mechanics from the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology continued its activities within the Faculty of Mechanics. In 1951, the department had its first graduation cohort consisting of 20 students.

With the increasing demand for specialized engineering training and the department's growing capacity for producing engineering professionals, several departments were formed based on the original Mechanical Engineering Technology Department. These include departments such as Metal-Cutting Machines and Tools, Technology of Automated Production, Automated Design Systems in Mechanical Engineering, Machine Reliability and Repair Technology, Technological Complexes and Special Machinery, and Metrology and Standardization. The currently active Department of Special Technologies and Equipment was also created on the foundation of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology.

From 1951 to 1996, 15,527 engineers specializing in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metal-Cutting Machines, and Tools were trained at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). Since 1992, the department has offered bachelor's degrees in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Processing, and since 1998, it has also provided master's degree programs.

Computer technology is widely used in the teaching of specialized subjects at the department. To enhance the quality of education, electronic teaching aids developed based on hypertext technologies, multimedia technologies, and animation tools are extensively employed in the teaching process. The department's laboratories and specialized classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and electronic projectors and are connected to the university's internet network.

The purpose of the department

The department trains specialists in the fields of Machine Engineering and Device Engineering and conducts scientific research in these areas.
