The Department of Industrial Engineering and Sustainable Economy traces its origins back to 1951, when it was initially established under the name “Industrial Economics.” Since its foundation, the department has undergone several structural and nominal transformations reflecting the evolving academic and economic landscape.
In subsequent years, the department was renamed “Economics, Organization, and Production Planning.” In 1980, it was reorganized into two separate academic units: the Department of Industrial Economics and Management and the Department of Economic Theory and Economics of Service Sectors.
By the decision of the Scientific Council of Azerbaijan Technical University dated July 15, 2020, these two departments were merged to form the Department of Economics. Following a further decision of the Scientific Council on February 3, 2021, the department was renamed the Department of Economics and Statistics.
In 2025, three new departments were established based on the former Department of Economics and Statistics, one of which is the Department of Industrial Engineering and Sustainable Economics.
The department currently delivers multi-level degree programmes, including:
· two Bachelor’s degree programmes,
· two Master’s degree programmes (comprising eight specializations),
· and two doctoral programmes (PhD and Doctor of Sciences).
This academic structure demonstrates the department’s commitment to a systematic, multi-tiered educational model aligned with contemporary higher education standards.
The teaching and learning process is organized in accordance with modern academic and quality assurance standards. Curriculum are regularly updated to reflect developments in scientific research, technological innovation, and labor market demands. Students are equipped with both theoretical foundations and practical competencies, ensuring their preparedness for professional practice and long-term career development.
The academic staff consists of highly qualified professors and lecturers with extensive academic and research experience. In addition to their scholarly activities, faculty members play a vital role in developing students’ analytical, methodological, and professional skills.
