A seminar on the topic “Poverty, Inequality and Development” was held by Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Financial Technologies at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), Rukhsara Seyfullali, conducted a seminar on the topic “Poverty, Inequality and Development” within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

It was noted that the first goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (No Poverty – SDG 1) and the tenth goal (Reduced Inequalities – SDG 10) constitute the global framework for inclusive development. Inclusive development implies not only the growth of Gross National Income (GNI), but also that this growth is generated by the majority of the population and benefits everyone equally. In the modern approach, poverty is measured not only by income deficiency but also by the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), which includes deprivations in education and health. Four main policy areas are considered important in combating poverty: adjustment of factor prices, redistribution of assets, progressive taxation, and direct transfers. Although economic growth is necessary for reducing poverty, without ensuring inclusiveness, the full formation of social welfare is not possible.

At the end of the seminar, questions from students and faculty members were answered.
