General Information




The Higher Education Institute operating under the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) was established by the decision of the AzTU Scientific Council dated December 27, 2021.

The primary mission of the Institute of Higher Education is to prepare professional personnel that meet modern requirements in technical fields, including specialists with creative thinking, research capability, and management skills. The main activity of the Institute of Higher Education is related to organizing teaching and research processes at the master's and doctoral levels. Additionally, the institute supports doctoral candidates, dissertation candidates, and master's students in conducting scientific research, participating in international and local projects, directing dissertation works towards solving real-world industrial problems, and assists in the preparation of high-level scientific personnel by following scientific achievements and innovative technologies in various fields of science.

The institute organizes teaching in 36 specialties and 126 specializations at the master's level. Instruction is provided in four languages: Azerbaijani, English, German, and Russian.

The training of highly specialized scientific and academic-pedagogical staff at Azerbaijan Technical University is carried out at the top level of higher education, the doctorate level, culminating in the awarding of relevant scientific degrees (Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Sciences). Education at the doctoral level is offered in both full-time (requiring a break from professional activities) and part-time (without requiring a break from professional activities) formats for Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Sciences programs. The education can be funded by the state or on a fee-paying basis, with the duration of full-time study being 3 years, part-time 4 years, and through dissertation 4 years for the Doctor of Philosophy program. For the Doctor of Sciences program, the duration of full-time study is 4 years, part-time 5 years, and through dissertation also 5 years. In exceptional cases, the duration of all forms of education can be extended. Admission to the Doctor of Philosophy program at the doctoral level is competitive and open to citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who have completed higher education at the master's level or have an equivalent level of education. Currently, there are a total of 177 doctoral and dissertation students across 30 specialties in the Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Sciences programs (including 146 doctoral students and 1 dissertation student for the Doctor of Philosophy program, and 19 doctoral students and 11 dissertation students for the Doctor of Sciences program).
