By Order No. 256-müx dated 27 December 1990, the Department of Transport Mechanical Engineering Technology was established.

By Order No. 51-müx dated 25 March 1993, the Department of Transport Mechanical Engineering Technology was renamed the Department of Machine Repair and Reliability (Protocol No. 08).

In 2003, the department was merged with the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology.

According to Order No. 71-müx dated 10 July 2014, the Department of Machine Reliability and Repair Technology, and in accordance with Order No. 99-müx dated 13 July 2016, the department was transferred from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering to the Faculty of Special Equipment and Technologies, and the department was reorganized and renamed as the Department of Special Technologies and Equipment.

Since June 2016, the Department of Machine Reliability and Repair Technology has been operating under the name Department of Special Technologies and Equipment.

The Government of Azerbaijan adopted a decision to train highly qualified specialists in the field of production technology of weapons and weapon systems for enterprises of the Ministry of Defense Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the basis of Azerbaijan Technical University. In this regard, the Faculty of Special Equipment and Technologies was established within the university. Considering the significant need for specialists in this field, the Department of Machine Repair Technology and Reliability was reorganized, its name was changed, its material and technical base was strengthened, and additional academic staff were involved in the educational process.

The department is headed by Professor A.G. Huseynov, Doctor of Technical Sciences. The academic staff includes three Doctors of Technical Sciences and Professors (A.G. Huseynov, V.A. Abbasov, F.G. Amirov), four PhD holders and Associate Professors (E.D. Rzayev, V.F. Civishov, Sh.N. Asadov, Ch.M. Mammadov), two senior lecturers (R.A. Veysov, E.R. Astanova), and two assistants (A.F. Karimov, U.S. Jamalov).

The department also includes one laboratory manager (K.B. Aliyeva), two senior laboratory assistants (I.A. Adgozalova, G.A. Shirinzade), and three training masters (E.A. Ahmadova, E.A. Baghiyev, G.A. Mutallimov).

Scientific and educational laboratories operating within the department include:

  • Diffusion Metallization Laboratory
  • Tribotechnics Laboratory
  • Tools and Equipment Laboratory

The department conducts scientific research on the following topics:

  • Technological assurance of the reliability of machines and small arms
  • Restoration of machine parts through diffusion metallization

Within these scientific areas, Master’s theses, PhD dissertations, and Doctor of Science dissertations are defended.

In accordance with the educational curricula, the academic staff of the department has developed textbooks, teaching manuals, and educational programs.

Professor A.G. Huseynov is the author of the textbook “Machine Repair Technology”, the monograph “Surface Engineering”, and the monograph “Technology of Processing Hardened and Restored Surfaces in Mechanical Engineering.”

Professor A.H. Sadikhov authored the textbook “Tribotechnics.”

Professor V.A. Abbasov authored the teaching manuals “Calculation and Design of Machine Tools and Machine Tool Complexes” and “Numerically Controlled Machine Tools,” as well as the monograph “Improving the Efficiency of Profile Grinding.”

Professor R.C. Bashirov authored the textbook “Technology of Repair of Ship Mechanisms.”

The Department of Special Technologies and Equipment provides education for bachelor’s and master’s degree students.
